Summary:
The Animal Shelter Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of animal care, welfare, and management within the animal shelter facility. They will ensure proper handling, treatment, and overall well-being of animals under their care. The manager will be responsible for supervising a team of shelter staff, coordinating veterinary care, and implementing effective shelter policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
1. Oversee all aspects of animal care, welfare, and management within the animal shelter facility.
2. Develop and implement effective shelter policies and procedures to ensure the well-being of animals.
3. Supervise shelter staff, providing guidance, support, and training as necessary.
4. Manage animal intake and adoption processes, ensuring appropriate screening and matching of animals to potential adopters.
5. Coordinate veterinary care for animals, including vaccinations, spaying/neutering, and medical treatments.
6. Maintain accurate records of animal intake, adoptions, medical treatments, and other relevant data.
7. Ensure compliance with local animal welfare regulations and standards.
8. Monitor and maintain a clean, safe, and humane environment for animals at all times.
9. Collaborate with other departments, such as fundraising and volunteer management, to support shelter operations.
10. Provide excellent customer service to potential adopters, visitors, and volunteers.
11. Conduct regular staff meetings and training sessions to ensure effective communication and skill development.
12. Stay updated on current trends and best practices in animal shelter management and veterinary medicine.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, or a related field.
2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in animal shelter management or a similar role.
3. Strong knowledge of animal health, welfare, and behavior.
4. Excellent leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to effectively supervise and motivate a team.
5. Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal animal welfare laws and regulations.
6. Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with staff, volunteers, and the public.
8. Ability to handle and manage difficult or emotional situations with compassion and professionalism.
9. Proficiency in using computer software for record-keeping and data management.
10. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, as needed.
